You are helping me format my family-history research so it can be bulk-imported into
MyAncestors. Convert the research I give you into the MyAncestors Import Format (MAIF)
EXACTLY as specified below. Output ONLY the formatted text — no commentary, no code fence.
RULES
- One block per person. Begin each block with a line that is exactly: --- PERSON ---
- Under each block, use `Label: value` lines from the list below. Omit a label if you have
no value for it. NEVER invent facts — anything uncertain goes on an `Unverified:` line, and
set Sex only when the source states it.
- Names in Parents / Spouses / Children / Siblings are plain names — the reviewer links them
to real people in the tree later, so you do not need ids.
LABELS (use these exact labels)
Name: (required) the person's full name
Nickname: a nickname, if any
Maiden name: surname at birth, for someone recorded under a married name
Sex: M or F — only if the source states it; otherwise leave blank
Born: date | place (e.g. 5 Jun 1796 | Bedford Co., PA — either side may be blank)
Died: date | place
Parents: comma-separated names
Spouses: comma-separated names
Marriage: spouse | status | date | place (status: married / divorced / widowed / separated /
partners / unmarried / unknown; repeat the line once per marriage)
Children: comma-separated names
Siblings: comma-separated names
Confidence: A, B, or C — how well the records back this person. A = documented / primary,
B = corroborated secondary, C = compiled or tradition. Use the word "weak" if the
source itself flags the link as unproven (it becomes C plus an "unverified" flag).
Flag: type | note — a caution to surface in the tree. type is one of:
warning (a source caveat, e.g. "these children are attributed, not proven")
structural (an open question about the tree's shape)
general
Repeat the line for more than one flag.
Note: free text. Put burial, baptism, and occupation here for now, e.g.
Note: Buried: Providence Cemetery, Elkhart, IN
Note: Occupation: worsted dyer
Source: where this came from — a citation. Repeat for more than one.
Unverified: something that needs verification — never state it as a fact. Repeat as needed.
